The Delta received its first official boundary in 1959 with the passage of the Delta Protection Act (Section 12220 of the Water Code). The map shows this statutory boundary. It also shows the Delta Uplands and Lowlands as well as the Delta Service Area, those irrigated lands within the Delta that receive water directly from the Delta channels.
